(...) There was a lot to hear and see at the Buchcafé in the concert of the Dortmund-based guitarist Andreas Heuser. Just two things were missing: a conventional six-string guitar and classical guitar music in a more conservative sense. Heuser just brought three of his numerous instruments to Bad Hersfeld, on which he impressively demonstrated the sound possibilities of the guitar. He managed to create on his 8-, and 10-string guitars, as well as the requinto, a wide range from low bass notes to fragile flageolets (...) In his compositions, which are influenced by world music as well as classical music elements, he made optimum use of the technical possibilities of his instruments.

New, complex soundscapes are created, with profound bass notes (on a 10-string guitar) or with sizzling high notes (on the smaller requinto) and impressive orchestral effects. Heuser crosses musical boundaries by combining classical, folk and exotic elements without fear. The title acoustic guitar unlimited of his concert during Kammermusik im Torhaus was a fitting name, and the first title Unknown Places set the pace. The artist took his audience to different places of his imagination. Rhythmic and melodic diversity permeates his compositions, that often show an exotic colour. Balcanesque rhythms, latin -american folk, oriental elements. He adapts music for the Arabic lute (in Prélude Oriental) or creates Turkish soundscapes. Sometimes, his tunes are illustrative: in Water Wheels you hear the sound of water, and in Windy City you almost feel the wind running through the guitar strings - sounds created by unusual playing techniques. But the virtuosity is always in service of musical expression, and besides the romantic, impressionist or exotic magic, he even picks a jazz standard to play it in his own way. The audience was impressed by his gentle soundscapes and willingly followed him on his journey across musical boundaries. (ME)
