babajam

....................eastern roots in western cities..........................
Babajam, founded in 1991 as „Baba Jam Band“, combine traditional music from the near and middle east (mainly from Turkey and the Balcans) with jazz and rock using oriental and western; acoustic and electric instruments mixing old with new. The care members singer and multi-instrumentalist Kazim Calisgan and guitarist, violinist and composer Andreas Heuser are working with a wide range of fellow musicians. They have managed to establish a highly personal style fusing their varied musical backgrounds. This was and still is the starting point for numerous intercultural collaborations.
Being a quintet at present they utilize traditional melodic templates to create imaginative and colourful arrangements and exciting original compositions using complex middle-eastern rhythms, oriental scales and jazz harmonies. They have created beat-driven pieces; ballads and abstract soundscapes adding up to a musical entity full of interesting contrasts.
The multitude of instruments (saz, cümbüs, violin, guitar, saxophone, flute, ney, electric bass, drumset, various percussion and vocals) enables „Babajam“ to produce a diverse and exciting listening pleasure.
