| ....................eastern roots in western cities.......................... |
|
Babajam, founded in 1991 as Baba Jam Band, combine traditional music from the near and middle east (mainly from Turkey and the Balcans) with jazz and rock using oriental and western; acoustic and electric instruments mixing old with new. The care members singer and multi-instrumentalist Kazim Calisgan and guitarist, violinist and composer Andreas Heuser are working with a wide range of fellow musicians. They have managed to establish a highly personal style fusing their varied musical backgrounds. This was and still is the starting point for numerous intercultural collaborations.
Being a quintet at present they utilize traditional melodic templates to create imaginative and colourful arrangements and exciting original compositions using complex middle-eastern rhythms, oriental scales and jazz harmonies. They have created beat-driven pieces; ballads and abstract soundscapes adding up to a musical entity full of interesting contrasts.
The multitude of instruments (saz, cümbüs, violin, guitar, saxophone, flute, ney, electric bass, drumset, various percussion and vocals) enables Babajam to produce a diverse and exciting listening pleasure.
